It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Revd Sylvia Stevenson on Sunday 21 June 2015, a current member and former minister of Tyndale Baptist church.

Sylvia Stevenson was greatly loved in the Southern Counties Baptist Association. My wife Alison and I settled at Newbury as young ministers and Sylvia was always supportive and interested.

Sylvia was a woman who was devoted to Christ and the church. She was a missionary in Kenya and Uganda. Her decade long ministry at Tyndale, Reading was blessed and she became a source of counsel and encouragement.

The role of the Association Secretary fifteen years ago, before changes in the Baptist Union of Great Britain, was a significant appointment. Her heart for the community, church, members, attendees and the whole association is legendary.

We give thanks for her and for her love for the Lord Jesus Christ. I recently visited a deacons’ meeting, and though frail, Sylvia was alert and made helpful contributions. The church and association will miss her, and we thank God for her contribution to Baptist life and mission.
